In Nigeria, widespread protests have erupted under the banner of “End Bad Governance,” driven by the deteriorating economic conditions and rising cost of living. These protests, which began on August 1, 2024, have seen thousands of Nigerians taking to the streets in major cities such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. The demonstrators are expressing their frustrations over issues like soaring inflation, high fuel prices, and governmental excesses amid economic hardships​.

The protests are leaderless, a modern characteristic facilitated by social media, which complicates the government’s response. Despite attempts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address some of the grievances and urge a halt to the demonstrations, the protesters continue to demand substantial reforms and an end to perceived governmental inefficiencies and corruption.
